Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been excellent this season.
Bruno Guimaraes was named Newcastle United’s club captain in the summer, an accolade that he has taken in his stride.
The Brazilian has formed a magnificent partnership with Sandro Tonali in midfield. It comes down to a tactical change that saw the Italian move into a deeper midfield role. Newcastle legend Alan Shearer praised Eddie Howe for the change.
So far in the Premier League this campaign, Guimaraes has scored twice and bagged six assists – only Jacob Murphy has more assists for Newcastle this season.
Despite his success, Guimaraes has been linked with a move away from Newcastle. Manchester City were linked with Guimaraes but began exploring options elsewhere.
As the January transfer window closes, a new report has suggested Guimaraes could make a shock move abroad in the summer.

Barcelona planning summer move for Bruno Guimaraes
Guimaraes has had his fair share of admirers since signing for Newcastle from Lyon in 2022. The 27-year-old has made 135 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 19 and bagging 24 assists.
Now, according to TeamTalk, Barcelona are now preparing to swoop in for Guimaraes in the summer transfer window.
Despite consistent financial problems at the Spanish giants, they believe that they can get a deal done for the Brazilian.
The report claims that Barcelona are willing to sell midfielder Frenkie De Jong to fund the move which would cost around £100m, the same price as his release clause which expired during the summer transfer window.
The La Liga side has a long-term interest in him – a Barcelona scout watched Guimaraes in February 2024.
Barcelona are aiming to hold talks with Newcastle and Guimaraes over a summer move but must sell before a deal can be completed.
Bruno Guimaraes among the best in Europe
While talk of a potential exit for Guimaraes persists, the Brazilian has kept his head down and shown why he has so many admirers.
So far this season, Guimaraes has completed 10 accurate through balls, more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Guimaraes has had much more freedom to play further up the pitch this season thanks to Tonali’s return. The tactical change has helped him up his assist numbers and even score two goals.
The Brazilian is contracted to Newcastle until 2028. Fans will be hoping he stays until then and beyond.
