Moments after completing the signing of Malick Thiaw, Newcastle United are pushing ahead with a deal for Jacob Ramsey.
It was confirmed on Tuesday night that Thiaw has joined Newcastle United, as he becomes the third senior signing at St James’ Park this summer.
A fourth might not be too far away, as Newcastle United aim to sign a midfielder.
It was reported on Tuesday morning that Jacob Ramsey is a top target for Newcastle, with the 24-year-old extremely interested in a move to Tyneside.
Now Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on the Magpies’ interest in Jacob Ramsey, as the Aston Villa man gets set to head to the North East.

Newcastle United to pay £40m for Jacob Ramsey
Newcastle United are suddenly going transfer crazy, as they step up their efforts to sign Ramsey from Aston Villa.
According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal for the centre-midfielder is now very close. In fact, he describes it as ‘imminent’.
Romano has also shared details on how much Ramsey is going to cost, with a £40million deal almost finalised.
That would make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever, equalling the amount that Joelinton cost in 2019.
A £40million deal would take the Magpies’ summer spending beyond £100million, having spent £55million on Anthony Elanga and £34million on Malick Thiaw.
What Newcastle United must do after they sign Jacob Ramsey
It was recently reported that Newcastle want three signings before the transfer window closes as a minimum.
That number is down to two following Thiaw’s arrival from AC Milan. If this deal for Ramsey gets finalised as well, suddenly Newcastle will only have one more signing left to complete to ensure the minimum business they needed to do is done.
The next priority has to be a striker. A replacement for Callum Wilson is vital, with Newcastle trying to sign Yoane Wissa.
That deal will hopefully go through, then the Magpies can solely focus on the Alexander Isak situation.
Isak wants to leave Newcastle, but that will only happen if a replacement is identified. Wissa will not be that, as he is being targeted to take Wilson’s place in the Newcastle United squad.
Newcastle’s transfer business is ramping up, and it could be a very busy end to the summer window.
