Newcastle United today confirmed the signing of Harvey Barnes from Leicester City and revealed that the player has already linked up with the squad in the USA.
At 3pm on Sunday Newcastle United officially announced the signing of England winger Harvey Barnes from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee speculated to be around £39million.
Fans were starting to get a touch anxious after Barnes was spotted on Tyneside for his medical on Thursday and then nothing coming out of the club to confirm anything.
Newcastle announced Barnes after he arrived in the USA
As it turns out, Newcastle were just biding their time to allow Barnes time to get himself sorted and jet over to Philadelphia to meet up with his new teammates before making the official announcement. Something I predicted this morning then instantly went back on – I’ve got to have more courage in my convictions.
Speaking to NUFC TV after his arrival, Barnes said he followed his gut when he made the call to join Newcastle, saying: “I knew myself I had that gut feeling and I think when you have that the decision almost made in your own mind, getting the ok from everyone else and getting the family’s opinions was important but as a player when you get that feeling you stick with it and go with it.”

Barnes also shared what he think he will bring to Eddie Howe‘s side next season saying: “I feel like I fit in well with the style, you can see it’s a fast-paced game, seeing last season the amount of chances created, goals scored, the defensive record of course. As an attacking player coming into that side it’s exciting. I feel like I can bring lots of goals, assists and exciting times.”
Barnes has been given the number 15 shirt for pre-season
The club have announced that Barnes will wear the number 15 shirt for the Premier League Summer Series, sharing an image of Barnes at the top of steps leading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art with his hands aloft, mimicking Rocky.

However they also note that squad numbers are still subject to change ahead of the new season, so best not run out and get your Barnes shirt printed just yet.
It’ll be too soon for Barnes to make an appearance tonight against Aston Villa you’d think, but he will definitely make his debut in the Summer Series.
