Eddie Howe faced the media ahead of tonight’s game between Newcastle United and Aston Villa and spoke about the possibility of any additions jetting out to the States to join up with the squad.
Newcastle take on Aston Villa in Philadelphia at midnight tonight UK time in their first game of the Premier League Summer Series before heading to the club that Darren Eales built, Atlanta for Miguel Almiron‘s homecoming fixture against Chelsea at 1:15am UK time on Thursday. The Magpies round out their visit with a match against Brighton in New Jersey on Saturday at 00:30 UK time.
Eddie Howe and Jamaal Lascelles faced the media ahead of tonight’s fixture, posted by NUFC TV, and Howe was, of course, asked about transfer deals.
Harvey Barnes had his medical on Tyneside on Thursday
Despite it being widely reported that Harvey Barnes was on Tyneside on Thursday to complete his £38million move from Leicester City to Newcastle the deal is yet to be formally announced and as such Eddie Howe was very careful with what he said about the deal.
Howe made a point of saying that Barnes is still a Leicester player when asked about the current state of play, however, when asked later if new signings, particularly Barnes, could join up with the camp in the US, Howe was a bit more responsive, saying: “Yeah, I think there’s hope that that could possibly be done but I’m loathed to go into too much detail until it’s fully completed.”

Newcastle fans have RSI in their thumbs from constantly refreshing their Twitter feed awaiting the official announcement of Harvey Barnes, but it seems we may be waiting just a little bit longer until we get to see the official images of the 25-year-old in his new colours.
The Barnes announcement can’t be far away now
I would posit a theory that Barnes is already in or at least on his way to the States and his announcement video will involve that somehow, but our eagle-eyed fans are everywhere and there’s no way he could get out of the country without being spotted and his plane being tracked.

It always feels like an eternity for Newcastle to announce new signings, but as long as they come, does it really matter?
It’s very likely that we’ll see the announcement early next week, possibly Monday and he’ll fly out to meet up with the squad shortly after.
