Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech had a transfer deadline day to forget after failing to secure a move to Newcastle United earlier in the window.
The Morocco international was heavily linked with joining Eddie Howe’ side, who saw Ziyech as an alternative to Anthony Gordon, according to the Telegraph.
In the end, the Magpies were able to sign the 21-year-old from Everton. That £45million deal ultimately ended Newcastle’s interest in Ziyech, whose future remained unresolved.
The Blues were reportedly reluctant to let the £33million man move to St James’ Park given that Newcastle are now seen as rivals, but they were happy for him to move elsewhere.
That led to a deadline day move to Paris Saint-Germain being set up, but the attacker is now set to spend the rest of the season at Stamford Bridge after a dramatic turn of events.

Hakim Ziyech’s move to PSG collapses
On the final day of the transfer window, Ziyech agreed a loan move to PSG. The 29-year-old travelled to the French capital, as he looked to complete the formalities of the move and join Christophe Galtier’s side.
But then disaster struck.
Chelsea reportedly sent the wrong documents to PSG on three occasions, with all parties eventually running out of time to complete the deal. By the time the correct document arrived, the transfer window had closed.
The Ligue 1 champions did launch an appeal to the LFP, but it has been rejected.
According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, sources in Paris described the situation as an ‘absolute shambles’, with Ziyech distraught over his failed move to the Qatari-owned side.
A catalogue of errors has led to Ziyech being forced to stay at Chelsea, after a paperwork catastrophe cost him his move to PSG.
It is an embarrassing situation for Chelsea, who were more focussed on their British record deal to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
This transfer debacle is hugely disappointment for Ziyech, a player who Newcastle wanted to sign themselves before Gordon’s arrival.
