Newcastle United continue their chase for Turkish wonderkid Arda Guler and Fabrizio Romano has just shared some news that will have the club’s accountants rubbing their hands.
According to recent reports Newcastle have already begun talks with Arda Guler‘s family and representatives over a summer move to Tyneside.
The 18-year-old dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi‘ has been on Newcastle’s radar for a while with our scouts recently in Turkey to oversee him scoring a brace for Fenerbahce.
Arda Guler’s release clause is now active according to Fabrizio Romano
Now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arda’s £15million release clause is active after the youngster hit the 1500 minutes threshold. The youngster with ‘superstar potential‘ had a clause in his contract stating that if he played more than 1500 minutes for Fenerbahce last season he could leave for €17.5million (£15million) this summer.
While £15million is still a massive bargain for someone of Arda’s potential, things could have been much better for the Magpies had he fallen short of that 1500 minutes target, as then he could have been available for as little as £4.3million.
Newcastle are leading the way for Arda’s signature
Several reports had stated that Fenerbahce wanted £22million for Arda, so we’d still be getting a bargain if we can convince the attacking midfielder to join us over other interested parties, which include Liverpool and Barcelona.
There are of course many other suitors for Arda’s signature this summer, but Newcastle got in early and have twice held talks with his family, once in Dubai and again in Turkey recently.
Arda Guler would be such an exciting signing for Newcastle this summer, even if he’s brought in as one for the future rather than an immediate first-team option. However, he’s had a taste for playing at the top level, playing in Europe and he has a couple of senior international caps to his name, so he could be good-to-go straight away if we land him.
