Arda Guler scored twice for Fenerbahce in front of Newcastle’s scouts last night

Yesterday it was reported that Newcastle United had scouts keeping an eye on Fenerbahce’s Arda Guler and Ferdi Kaioglu on Monday night.

Newcastle‘s representatives were in the stands watching Arda Guler, known as ‘The Turkish Messi’ and was listed on the NGXN list of world’s best wonderkids, and Ferdi Kadioglu, the versatile full-back that has been on Newcastle’s radar for a while.

Clearly the most exciting of the two players is Guler who has been hailed as having ‘superstar potential‘ and it was he who would definitely have caught the eye of the scouts last night during Fenerbache‘s 3-3 draw with Istanbulspor.

Guler could leave Fenerbahce for less than £5million

Guler has a clause in his contract that says he can leave the Turkish side for just £4.8million if he doesn’t amass more than 1500 minutes in playing time which would be a snip as he’s rated closer to £22million.

While Ferdi Kadioglu’s big contribution to the game was conceding a penalty and subsequently picking up a yellow card for handball, the 18-year-old Guler had a much more positive evening.

Arda Guler opened the scoring on 25 minutes and then doubled the Fenerbahce lead in the 51st minute. Istanbulspor pulled two goals back before Joao Pedro (not that one) scored for Fenerbache to make it 3-2 but they couldn’t hold on to their lead and it finished 3-3.

Newcastle face Premier League competition for Guler

Two goals from Guler in front of Newcastle’s representatives will certainly not have hurt his chances of a move to the Premier League in the summer, although Arsenal and Manchester City are also interested in the midfielder.

But as far as auditions go, they don’t get much better than that one. Whereas for Ferdi Kadioglu, conceding a penalty is never a good look, but that doesn’t mean he necessarily had a bad game.

For me though, the more I look into Arda Guler the more I think he’d be a fantastic recruit and after last night I’m even more convinced he’s someone that Newcastle should be looking to bring to St James’ Park.
