Talk of Newcastle United signing a left-back has gone very quiet, and news from Fabrizio Romano confirms that our possible list of targets has just got smaller.
The Magpies were recently forced to cross Antonee Robinson off of their list, with the defender agreeing to extend his stay with Fulham. Elsewhere, there has been no movement on Kieran Tierney moving to St James’ Park, which was expected to happen.
Another player who was linked with signing for Newcastle earlier in the year was Renan Lodi, but now he is set to be off the market.
Newcastle were linked with Renan Lodi
Lodi spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest after Newcastle decided against a move for the Brazilian. However, that was not the end of the Magpies’ interest.
It was reported back in March that Lodi was once again a target for Eddie Howe, who was heading into the summer with the idea of signing a new left-back.

The 25-year-old looked like a decent alternative to Tierney, and certainly someone who would be much cheaper than the Scotland international.
Now we know that Lodi certainly would have been cheaper, but a move to Tyneside is not on the horizon.
Lodi now set to sign for Marseille
That is because the defender is signing for Marseille, according to Romano. The transfer expert states that the Ligue 1 side are going to pay Atletico Madrid £11million for the Brazil international.
He has agreed to join Marseille, and is due to undergo a medical with the French club on Friday.
For that kind of money, Lodi would have been considered a bargain addition to Newcastle’s squad. That is less than what Matt Targett cost, who was signed instead of Lodi last summer.
But the fact that Newcastle haven’t made a move at that price suggests that he was not a top target – and one thing the club has not done since the takeover is sign players for the sake of it.
The search for a left-back goes on.
