Newcastle United have been unable to sign Dominic Solanke during the January transfer window, but he could be back on the Magpies’ radar this summer.

The Bournemouth striker was linked with a move to Tyneside earlier this month, with Newcastle reportedly launching an enquiry for the 26-year-old.

It was turned down, with the Cherries keen to keep Dominic Solanke at the Vitality Stadium.

But he is a player who Eddie Howe has admitted that he likes, and HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that he thinks Solanke could be on the club’s radar this summer – with a current Newcastle striker potentially going the other way.

Newcastle could look at Dominic Solanke again in the summer

“It was denied at both ends very quickly,” he said.

“It may have been a bit of agent talk trying to generate something but Bournemouth are not willing to do business.

“I thinks he’s one for the summer. Could I see Callum Wilson being sent to Bournemouth and send Solanke the other way? Easily.

“Callum Wilson, I imagine, will be moved on by Newcastle this summer.”

Swap deal could make sense for Newcastle

Callum Wilson has struggled for fitness this season. He has scored eight goals, but his tally would be much greater if he had not missed so many games.

The 31-year-old is currently out of action with a calf problem, and has missed 11 games in total this season.

When he is fit, he is a fantastic striker, and someone who can be relied on to score goals. But he can’t be relied on to stay fit, which is something you can say for Solanke.

The £19million Bournemouth man is also five years younger than Wilson, so he could potentially be an ideal replacement for the number nine.

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle do reignite their interest in him when the summer transfer window rolls around, and whether that could have a direct impact on Wilson’s future on Tyneside.
