Newcastle United have money to spend in the January transfer market and have reportedly looked at a promising young player from a Premier League rival.

After selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a British record transfer fee, Newcastle United will have the chance to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad when the transfer window opens again.

The full extent of Newcastle United’s January transfer budget is not known just yet but there are at least some funds available, which is a major boost to Howe.

By the time the 2026 window rolls around, it will be three years since Newcastle made a January signing.

It remains to be seen just how active the club are in the New Year sales, but it seems Fulham’s Josh King is of interest.

Newcastle United interested in signing Josh King

According to The Chronicle, Howe is set to get PIF’s full backing in January.

Still, there will be a focus on signing younger players unless there’s an emergency that requires a more experienced option to be brought in.

In short, it means fewer signings than the likes of Yoane Wissa, who cost the club over £50million but has little in the way of resale value.

There aren’t necessarily certain positions being targeted ahead of January, although previous reports have claimed that Newcastle still want to sign another striker

The report goes on to claim that the club have “checked out” King, who only signed a new long-term deal at Fulham earlier this year.

The midfielder, who can also play in an advanced position, is also said to be attracting interest from other Premier League clubs.

The teenager made his first team debut last season in what was a breakout campaign at Craven Cottage. This time around, however, he’s much more involved under Marco Silva.

King has already started seven Premier League games for his boyhood club and was harshly denied a goal against Chelsea earlier this season due to a controversial VAR call.

Even at a relatively young age, King is producing some impressive numbers.

As per WhoScored data, he’s averaging 1 tackle and 1.4 shots per Premier League game, as well as a dribble and 0.4 key passes.

The England youth international looks set for a promising future.
