Don Hutchison thinks Sandro Tonali move is great news for Newcastle star

Newcastle United are looking to make Sandro Tonali their marquee midfield addition this summer, and pundit Don Hutchison approves of a move for the Italian.

Tonali was first linked with a move to Tyneside earlier this month, but the Magpies’ interest ramped up on Tuesday night.

News of a bid from Newcastle emerged, with Eddie Howe’s side proposing a deal worth £43million. However, it looks like it is going to cost a lot more to bring Tonali to St James’ Park.

But this deal sounds more likely than the Nicolo Barella one, with Newcastle prepared to double Tonali’s wages if he does decide to leave Milan.

Former player and Newcastle fan Don Hutchison was very excited when news about Barella emerged, but that deal is fizzling out. Now Tonali is the top target, and the ex-West Ham midfielder is equally as buzzing.

Hutchison excited about Tonali to Newcastle

Foollowing news of a bid for Tonali, Hutchison took to Twitter to give his reaction.

He wrote: “If NUFC get Sandro Tonali, he could be Bruno’s best mate. Even though Tonali is a number eight himself. He will allow Bruno to get forward even more. Maddison Bruno Tonali is some midfield, on top of what they’ve already got. NUFC making big strides.”

Good news for Bruno

As Hutchison says, the prospect of a midfield three of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and James Maddison is very exciting. Then we would still have Joelinton, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff in reserve.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, and just focus on Tonali for now. The 23-year-old has the ability to unlock Bruno and allow the Brazilian to play higher up the pitch.

That has been Newcastle’s ambition for the 25-year-old for a long time, and it could become a reality if Tonali joins the club. The Italy international is a very flexible midfielder, and can operate in a number of different roles. That is probably why he is so appealing to Eddie Howe, who appreciates players who can do more than one job.

Bruno is already an exceptional player, but he is capable of even more – particularly in attack. Hopefully we see that next season, and we most certainly will if he is joined by Tonali in the middle of the park.
