Newcastle United continue to be heavily linked with signing James Maddison this summer, and now Callum Wilson has commented on the Leicester City midfielder’s future.
Wilson and Maddison were briefly teammates at Coventry City 10 years ago, and they could be reunited at Newcastle this summer.
Maddison is a long-term target for the Magpies, with Dan Ashworth failing to secure his services during the previous two transfer windows. But Newcastle will not be deterred, and are going to try once again to bring him to St James’ Park.
He is reportedly Newcastle’s top target this summer, while it has been claimed that the 26-year-old is intrigued by a possible move to Tyneside.
His stock has risen after his first ever England start on Sunday, where he really impressed in the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over Ukraine.

His performance at Wembley has prompted talk about his future, and now Wilson has weighed in on the debate.
On the latest episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast, the Newcastle number nine admitted that he expects Maddison to join a bigger club soon.
“He is a top player and eventually he will move on from Leicester and go to a bigger club,” he said.
“I think he deserves that opportunity, especially for how long he’s been at Leicester and how much he’s given the club.”
Wilson added: “Happy for him. Fellow Coventry kid. Buzzing for him.”

Wilson thinks Maddison will join a bigger club in the near future, and the next natural step is a team competing in the Champions League. He has won a trophy with Leicester and played in Europe, but never in the elite competition.
That is where Newcastle could be next season, with Eddie Howe’s side well placed to finish in the top four. The Magpies are currently fifth in the table, but have two games in hand on Tottenham who are two points ahead in fourth.
It is in Newcastle’s hands, and a top four finish could open the club up to a whole new world of transfer opportunities.
Champions League football is what Newcastle need if they are going to be the bigger club that Maddison signs for. Wilson thinks a move is on the horizon, and he will no doubt secretly hope that he is on his way to Tyneside this summer.
