Callum Wilson ‘excited’ as West Ham move confirmed after he snubbed Newcastle United stay

Newcastle United are set to square off against Callum Wilson in the Premier League next season after the striker found a new club in West Ham.

Wilson scored 49 goals in 130 games for Newcastle United and proved a brilliant signing under Steve Bruce.

Had it not been for the striker’s goals during the Bruce years, the club may never have been in a position to have been taken over by PIF.

Sadly for Wilson, however, injuries played a major part during his time on Tyneside and it was the right decision for all parties when he left the club upon the expiration of his contract earlier this summer.

Still, the 33-year-old has not had to wait long to land a big-name new club.

Callum Wilson reacts to West Ham move

Newcastle wanted to keep Wilson, but his move to the Hammers has now been confirmed.

While Newcastle were in talks over an extended contract with Wilson, he opted to move on for a new challenge.

That will now be at West Ham, a team who he has had significant success against over the years.

In 16 games against the Irons, Wilson has scored a remarkable 12 goals over the course of his career.

Speaking to West Ham’s official website, he said: “I’m excited to be joining a massive Football Club like West Ham. A Club that shares a similar passion to mine, hard work, dedication and also I strive for success so I’m glad to be a part of it.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge. There’s such talent within the squad. And obviously the gaffer’s come in now, he’s making everybody a team – all working in the same direction to achieve the goal which is to be finishing as high as possible in the league and it’s what the fans deserve, what the team deserve and it’s what the squad quality deserves too.”

When Callum Wilson could play against Newcastle United

Despite being a prolific Premier League striker over the years, the former England international never actually scored against Newcastle while he was at Bournemouth.

That could change, however, when Newcastle play West Ham.

Wilson could come up against his former club when Eddie Howe’s side travel down to the London Stadium on Saturday 1 November, 2025.

The forward could make his return to St James’ Park when the return fixture takes place, which is currently scheduled for Sunday 17 May, 2026.

It’s brilliant to see Wilson land a Premier League move after so many injuries. A fantastic player for Newcastle over the years, he’ll no doubt get a great reception when he returns.
