Newcastle United are monitoring Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone ahead of a possible move in the summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The reliable reporter claims the Magpies are one of a whole host of big clubs interested in the 21-year-old Frenchman.
Alongside the Toon, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are touted with information about the youngster’s situation at Gladbach.
It is believed that the most likely outcome is a transfer in the summer, meaning the sides mentioned will continue to follow his progress over the remainder of the season.
Newcastle monitoring Kone ahead of summer move
According to a report by MediaFoot, the Magpies had a £31m bid rejected by the Bundesliga club last summer. Instead, it was claimed Gladbach were holding out for a much larger fee, as Kone currently has two-and-a-half-years (with the option of a further 12 months) left on his deal.
Eddie Howe and co are looking to bring in another midfielder to the Toon’s ranks. Having adopted a new framework which targets younger talent, the 21-year-old would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle to make.
Thus far this season, Kone has played 14 Bundesliga matches from the starting XI. During this period, he has impressed both offensively and defensively, illustrated by his ranking at the top of the side’s leader board for tackles and dribbles averaged per game.
Having previously made a bid for the youngster, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see the Magpies go back in for him again.
