Newcastle United fans are very excited to see what Jacob Ramsey can achieve at St James’ Park.
The 24-year-old is closing in on a move to Tyneside, with Newcastle set to sign Ramsey from Aston Villa.
Ramsey is going to cost around £40million, which will make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.
It is a lot of money, but the Toon recruitment team will view it as a smart investment in a young midfielder with a lot of potential.
He will certainly improve the Newcastle United squad, but some Aston Villa supporters have issued a warning.

Aston Villa fans believe Newcastle United-bound Jacob Ramsey is injury prone
The Aston Villa faithful are reacting to the news that one of their own is closing in on a move to Newcastle United. Having come through their academy, Jacob Ramsey is on the brink of leaving Villa Park.
While there is sadness from Aston Villa fans on X, some of them have pointed towards his recent injury record as a reason to sanction a £40million move to the Magpies.
One Aston Villa fan wrote: “I love Jacob Ramsey. But £40m? Can’t say no to that. Injury prone. Not a regular source of goals or assists when he’s been fit. Has rejected several contract offers to stay. Club can’t say no to that kind of offer.”
Another supporter added: “Without a doubt it hurts to let Ramsey go as he’s one of our own. But to get 40 million for a player who’s injury prone and has only scored 2 league goals in the past 2 seasons is absolutely brilliant business.”
This Villa supporter noted: “£40million for Jacob Ramsey is a good deal for us. Never nice to lose “one of our own” but he’s now had 2 seasons of no real progression, obviously not helped by many spells out due to injury. I don’t see where he fits in at Newcastle but good luck to him.
Another fan stated on X: “40M for Ramsey is great business for us. As I said before if he was called Jacobi Ramsaretti and was from Parma he would get the same treatment as Bailey from our fans. He has potential to be worth more but his injury record is preventing his true potential.”
How many games Jacob Ramsey has missed due to injury
It has been a tough couple of years with regards to fitness for Ramsey. However, to describe him as ‘injury prone’ is unfair.
During the 2024/25 season, Ramsey missed eight Premier League games. Seven of those were due to a hamstring injury. He also missed a couple of Champions League encounters, but was still fit enough to make 46 appearances in all competitions.
The 2023/24 season is the one that was really difficult for Ramsey. He had multiple injury problems, which resulted in him sitting out 22 Premier League games and 12 cup contests. In total, he played 21 times throughout the campaign.
But those are the only two seasons where injuries have been a ‘problem’. In 2022/23, he missed three Premier League games due to fitness, and it was the same during the 2021/22 season.
There is no reason for Newcastle United fans to worry. Toon officials will have complete confidence in Ramsey’s fitness. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t spend £40million on him.
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Eddie Howe is a huge fan of Ramsey, and it is going to be exciting to see what they can achieve together on Tyneside.
