Newcastle United need to sign a right-winger to replace Miguel Almiron.
The Magpies will soon be without one of their longest-serving players as Miguel Almiron wraps up his move back to Atlanta United, the club he joined Newcastle from in 2019.
Almiron’s Newcastle exit leaves Eddie Howe with a decision to make over who takes Almiron’s place in Newcastle’s squad. Jacob Murphy has been Newcastle’s first-choice right-winger this season and has been performing well. However, Harvey Barnes’ injury means that Newcastle are struggling for depth in that position once Almiron leaves.
In an ideal world, young winger Yankuba Minteh would have been the most likely candidate to take his place. Sadly, PSR troubles stripped Newcastle fans of the opportunity to see the 20-year-old play for Newcastle when Minteh was sold to Brighton in the summer.
Joe Willock and Joelinton can both play in that position, but Howe will be keen to utilise them in midfield where they have performed so well all season.
Another option is for Newcastle to dip into the transfer market and sign a new winger. There has been one name linked who impressed in a recent visit to St James’ Park. Now, a new transfer report has suggested that Arsenal could beat Newcastle to him.

Arsenal linked with move for Antoine Semenyo
Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo is having a standout season under the tutelage of Andoni Iraola. The 22-year-old has scored six goals and bagged three assists so far this campaign – he added to his assist tally in Newcastle’s shock defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.
Newcastle are linked with the ‘exciting’ Semenyo who would cost interested parties around £50m in January.
According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal have now joined the race to sign Semenyo who they see as a replacement for the injured Bukayo Saka.
Like Newcastle, the Gunners are light on the right side of the attack. Saka is set to be out for an extended period of time due to a hamstring problem. They have been forced to play Leandro Trossard out of position instead.
The report also suggests that Liverpool have also registered an interest in Semenyo. They were willing to offer young winger Ben Doak; who is out on loan at Middlesbrough. Bournemouth are not interested in that deal.
As well as Semenyo, Arsenal look keen to beat Newcastle to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Cunha’s new contract talks have stalled over a release clause that Wolves are reluctant to include.
What Semenyo said about Newcastle
Semenyo was exceptional against Newcastle in their 4-1 win. Howe admitted Newcastle were fatigued but also recognised how good Bournemouth were.
After the win, Semenyo knew how Newcastle would play and ensured that he and his teammates made the Magpies play into their hands.
He said: “We knew they had moments when they’d keep it at the back and we wanted to catch out the back four.
“As soon as the goalkeeper passed to the centre back that was our trigger to go and it worked out perfectly.”
It was evident that a tired Newcastle could not keep up with Bournemouth’s high intensity as they fell to their first defeat in 10 games.
