Arsenal are taking steps to prepare themselves for Aaron Ramsdale leaving the club this summer, which could be good news for Newcastle United.

The Magpies were heavily linked with Aaron Ramsdale during the January transfer window, at a time when it looked like the club was going to dip into the market and sign a replacement for the injured Nick Pope.

That did not materialise, with Eddie Howe putting his faith in Martin Dubravka.

But rumours regarding a move for Ramsdale have not gone away, and it has been claimed that Newcastle are actually the most likely club to sign the England international.

A move away from the Emirates Stadium looks incredibly likely, with David Raya continuing to serve as Mikel Arteta’s first choice goalkeeper.

He looks set to sign for Arsenal permanently, which could spell the end for Ramsdale. And a new report suggests that the Gunners are bracing themselves for his departure.

Arsenal eye Aaron Ramsdale replacement

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are looking to sign Patrick Schulte from Columbus Crew this summer if Ramsdale leaves.

The report from the Telegraph states that Arsenal are scouring the market for goalkeepers, due to the possibility of Ramsdale departing the club three years after he arrived for £24million.

It has been a surprise to see him lose his place in the starting XI, and now a move away feels inevitable. It is what he needs, as he can’t afford to spend his days on the bench at the age of 25 – especially given his England aspirations.

And with Ramsdale likely to be available, you have to imagine rumours over a move to Newcastle United will continue. He has been a target before, while he knows Eddie Howe from when they were both at Bournemouth.

It has recently been claimed that the Magpies are likely to target a goalkeeper this summer, but whether or not that results in an approach for Ramsdale remains to be seen. He certainly could be an option, given his impending availability.
