Arsenal give two-word response to suddenly moving for Alexander Isak ahead of Liverpool

It was not too long ago that Arsenal were the club linked the most with signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

While the Alexander Isak situation has gone into overdrive in recent weeks, speculation regarding a move away is nothing new for Newcastle United fans.

Mikel Arteta spent most of last season wishing he had a reliable goalscorer, watching on as Isak enjoyed another spectacular season in black and white.

Arsenal fans were hoping they could sign Isak this summer, but they have bought Viktor Gyokeres instead. All the while, Isak wants to join Liverpool but he is unlikely to get what he wants.

But while Newcastle are not intending to sell the 25-year-old to Liverpool before the transfer window closes, could Arsenal be an option?

‘No chance’ Arsenal sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United

Following Isak’s statement on Tuesday night, the chances of Isak joining Liverpool have decreased even further.

That could open the door for Arsenal, but a move to the Emirates is not on the horizon before 1st September.

According to journalist Miguel Delaney’s weekly newsletter, ‘senior figures’ at the PFA awards on Tuesday speculated that Arsenal could make a sudden move to sign Isak from Newcastle.

However, Delaney adds that Arsenal’s response was ‘no chance’. That is because of the forward’s £150million price tag and the fact they are closing in on a big money deal to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

Liverpool look set to lose a one-horse race for Alexander Isak

Despite his immense quality, there is not much of a market for Alexander Isak.

In a perfect world, Newcastle would have clubs from all over the world battling it out for Isak’s signature.

However, once it emerged that Isak did not want to go to Saudi Arabia, Liverpool have been the only possible suitor.

Despite having no serious competition, Liverpool could still lose out. That might not even change if they make a £150million offer.

The problem boils down to Newcastle replacing Isak. They could let Isak go, but doing so without someone of similar quality coming in would be negligent.

That is why Newcastle moved for Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. If either of them had moved to St James’ Park, Isak’s move to Liverpool probably would have been completed by now.

Alas, there is just over a week to go before the summer transfer window closes and it looks impossible for Newcastle to replace Isak. That will result in Liverpool losing a one-horse race.
