Arsenal are struggling for goals right now, which has led to them showing an interest in Newcastle United’s leading scorer this season.
Alexander Isak became the latest Mackem slayer at the weekend, scoring twice as Newcastle beat Sunderland 3-0 in the Tyne-Wear derby. The brace means that Isak now has 13 goals to his name this season.
He is in red hot form right now, boasting four goals in his last three games, further solidifying himself as the Premier League’s second best striker behind Erling Haaland.
And that has reportedly led to interest from Arsenal, whose lack of killer instinct in front of goal is derailing a campaign that had offered so much.
Arsenal want to sign Alexander Isak
That is according to Football Transfers, who report that Arsenal are expressing an interest in signing Isak from Newcastle.
They state that the Gunners are big fans of the Sweden international, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta a fond admirer of the 24-year-old.
He actually tried to bring Isak to the Emirates Stadium in 2022, but Arsenal were unwilling to pay his release clause when he still played for Real Sociedad.
Arsenal instead brought in Gabriel Jesus, while the door was left open for Newcastle to swoop in and pay £63million to make him the Magpies’ most expensive signing ever in August 2022.
He has been a revelation in black and white, with fitness the only thing that seems able to stop him. He has missed a fair few games due to injury, but he is incredible when he is available.
In the eyes of Kieran Trippier, Isak is ‘frightening’ in front of goal, with the forward finding the net 23 times since joining Newcastle a year and a half ago.

‘Frightening’ Newcastle superstar is going nowhere
Now he is being linked with a move away, but there is surely no way that the club would agree to sell him to Arsenal. The only way they would get him would be if they agreed to pay more than £100million for him, which seems incredibly unlikely.
Arsenal can admire Isak all they want, but he is a Geordie. He is a key player for Eddie Howe, and is going to be vital for the Magpies in the coming years.
Instead, Arsenal will simply have to focus on stopping him when they play against Newcastle, whilst they rue not signing him when they had the chance.
