Eddie Howe has claimed that there’s one Newcastle United player who still has room to grow after a big win against Sunderland yesterday.

Newcastle blew Sunderland away from start to finish yesterday in what was a dominant performance against their biggest rivals in football.

Speaking to NUFCTV, Eddie Howe was very impressed with Alexander Isak’s performance in the game, but he thinks there’s still a lot more to come from the Swedish striker in the second half of the season.

Isak was Newcastle’s hero against Sunderland

Isak netted twice in the first Tyne-Wear derby in eight years and wrote his name into Newcastle folklore after a huge performance against Sunderland.

It’s been a tough season with injuries for Isak who has suffered multiple spells out of the team this season, and yet he’s still managed to net an impressive 13 goals in 22 games across all competitions.

Yesterday, the £63m signing was just too good for Sunderland who really struggled defensively to deal with Newcastle’s attack all afternoon with the gap in quality very obvious to see.

We’re still yet to see Isak at his very best which should be terrifying for other Premier League clubs, and Howe is backing the Swedish international to really shine in the second half of the season.

In his interview, Howe said: “Very good. I think he led the line very well. He’ll be pleased with the two goals.

“I still believe there’s more to come as he starts to rebuild his fitness levels but delighted with how he’s come back into the team.

“He’s scored some big goals for us this year and he’s got a huge part to play for us in the second half of the season.”

Howe tips Isak to be even better this season

Isak has really shown some unbelievable qualities since signing for the club last summer from Real Sociedad, he’s just been so unfortunate with injuries that he’s never gotten into a strong run of games.

At just 24-years-old it’s clear that the striker’s best years are still ahead of him and Howe has fully backed his man to develop into one of the best forwards in the world in the coming years.

There’s no questions Isak’s ability, we’ve all seen how good he can be on the ball and dragging his team forwards, but now it’s about also being more of a physical presence and making sure he can be available for his team.
