Newcastle United’s latest signing Antonio Cordero will be in demand this summer.
Cordero will officially join Newcastle United at the start of July, having arrived on a free transfer from Malaga.
The teenage winger could well be the last signing made under current sporting director Paul Mitchell.
Indeed, Newcastle have confirmed Mitchell will leave at the end of June, little under a year after he was appointed as Dan Ashworth’s replacement.
Upon the signing of the young Spaniard, Mitchell confirmed the “exciting” Cordero would leave Newcastle on loan.
A statement from Mitchell posted on Newcastle United’s official website read: “Antonio is an exciting talent. We’re delighted to bring him to Newcastle United amidst interest in Spain and across Europe.
“He has lots of potential, and the next phase of his development will be for the club to select a loan move that will challenge him and build on his experiences.”
Now, it seems some big clubs are lining up to sign him.

Ajax among clubs who want to sign Antonio Cordero from Newcastle United
According to journalist Ben Jacobs on social media platform X, Dutch giants Ajax are just one of the clubs interested in signing the 18-year-old this summer.
Jacobs adds that clubs in Spain and Germany are also considering making a move for the teenager.
Malaga also want to sign Cordero on loan, although it is hard to imagine Newcastle choosing them over the likes of Ajax given they are in the Spanish second tier.
What is Antonio Cordero’s style of play?
Barcelona attempted to hijack Newcastle’s move for Cordero, which perhaps offers an indication as to the level of his talent.
Watching his development will be fascinating. Clearly, it’s unwise to expect too much too soon but playing for a team like Ajax could give him some valuable experience.
Cordero has explained his style of play, telling Newcastle fans that his strengths come in creating and scoring goals after his move to St James’ Park was confirmed.
“I think that my strengths are in attack,” he revealed.
“Shooting at goal, making goals, final pass and assists. These are my strengths.”
| Games | Goals | Assists |
| 40 | 6 | 7 |
Last season, the winger scored six goals while registering seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
Translating that into a Premier League context will be a challenge but, hopefully the right loan move will help him get up to elite level quickly.
