Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has dropped a subtle hint on his future at the club amid rumours that Arsenal are interested in signing him.

The PSR deadline is now over, and the Magpies are expected to take a step forward in their pursuit of first-team signings that Eddie Howe is so desperate for.

Newcastle United are feeling the impact of a competitive transfer market, with the likes of Joao Pedro choosing to join Chelsea despite long-term interest from the Magpies. Howe’s side have also missed out on Dean Huijsen, but the feeling is that those inside the club understand why he would pick Real Madrid over them.

While signings are the priority, there have been rumblings of departures to give Newcastle space in the squad to add those new players. As it stands, it is likely to be the fringe players who will leave, with Sean Longstaff attracting interest from Leeds and Everton, while Joe Willock is linked to Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon’s future at Newcastle has been called into question in recent months. However, the 24-year-old has now dropped a new message on social media hinting at his future on Tyneside.

Anthony Gordon suggests he is happy at Newcastle United

It is fair to say that Gordon had a rocky end to the 2024/25 campaign. After returning from suspension and injury, the 24-year-old struggled to make an impact in the final few games of the season, but his form before that was phenomenal.

Goals in both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-finals against Arsenal helped the Magpies get to Wembley, although he was not able to play in the final due to suspension. The goals against the Gunners appear to have stuck with Mikel Arteta, who has taken a shine to Gordon this summer.

However, the Newcastle star has now dropped a new message on social media hinting that he is happy to stay at the club.

In an Instagram post promoting the new third shirt for the 2025/26 season, Gordon said: “3rd shirt, 3rd season.”

That post suggests that he will be a Newcastle player for next season as the Magpies return to the Champions League, where he thrived in 2023.

However, it must be noted that the England international was unlikely to leave Newcastle this summer. He has gone on record on many occasions to share how much he enjoys life on Tyneside. He also signed a new long-term deal with the club last year.

While Gordon did not finish the season on a high, he will have the opportunity to prove the doubters wrong and find more success on Tyneside. There is no doubt Gordon has tough competition with Harvey Barnes on the left wing, but he will be confident that he can take his place back in the starting XI and keep it.

Paul Gascoigne said Gordon should stay at Newcastle, and he will be for the foreseeable future after signing a new deal in October 2024. It would take a gargantuan transfer fee to get Newcastle to accept an offer for him, an offer which many clubs may not be able to afford.

After speculation, Fabrizio Romano has commented on whether he sees Gordon leaving Newcastle for Arsenal this summer.

Speaking in his GiveMeSport column, Romano addressed Arsenal’s interest in the Newcastle winger.

“Arsenal interest is true, he is one of the players they like, and they discussed internally.

“But what I understand, it’s not that Arsenal have opened any negotiations with the Newcastle or with his agents.

“It’s just an appreciation for the player, but for the winger at Arsenal, I think we have to be bit patient before we understand who is the player they really want to sign.”

It has also been confirmed that Arsenal are looking to sign Chelsea star Noni Madueke, who has also previously been linked with Newcastle.
