Alexander Isak is refusing to play for Newcastle United, much to the shock of Ally McCoist.

It is the latest twist in this staggering story, as Alexander Isak aims to leave Newcastle United.

It has been reported that Isak will not play for Newcastle again, with the 25-year-old seeing his Toon career as over.

The decision comes after it had been claimed over the weekend that Newcastle will not sell Isak, despite his desire to leave for Liverpool.

The situation is an absolute mess, and one that has tarnished Isak’s reputation at St James’ Park.

Ally McCoist says Alexander Isak has ‘let down’ Eddie Howe

That is the view of Ally McCoist, who has hammered Isak for his actions during an appearance on TalkSPORT on Tuesday morning.

McCoist has admitted there was a proper way for Isak to leave Newcastle United, but his actions have only let Eddie Howe down.

“There’s ways it can happen,” he said.

“If you say to Isak, look, I’m going to let you go if we get the right offer. Two things, if we can get an acceptable offer we’ll let you go, and, probably just as importantly, if not more importantly, I need to get a replacement in. That’s Eddie Howe.

“Eddie Howe must feel so let down at this moment in time. It’s not the actual move that’s the problem. You can argue he wants to go to Liverpool because they’re favourites to win the title and might have a better run in the Champions League. But you cannot say to people, your bosses, I’m not going to turn up for work. That’s not on in my book.”

McCoist added: “If it had been conducted in the manner I said to you, the players will know and understand ‘the big fella’s been brown for his last season, he wants to go to Liverpool, it weakens our team, but we understand that’s his decision’.

“But, it’s completely different in that dressing room now when he says I don’t want to play for you. I’m not going to play for you.”

Gabby Agbonlahor asks Liverpool question as Alexander Isak refuses to play for Alexander Isak

Gabby Agbonlahor was also on TalkSPORT alongside McCoist, and is just as angry about the way that Isak is conducting himself.

The ex-Aston Villa striker believes Newcastle United fans will hate Isak now, before suggesting that Liverpool will be anticipating a cheaper deal after the player has thrown his toys out of the pram.

“I think he’s out of line, out of order,” he said.

“All the memories Newcastle fans have got of Isak will be gone now. They’re going to obviously hate him for what he is doing to their football club.

“From a Liverpool point of view, surely you’re licking your lips of like ‘the £110million we offered, you’ve got to take it’. If I’m Liverpool, I’m not offering £150million with this scenario opening up now.”

Liverpool offered around £110million for Isak, but it was rejected by Newcastle United. A second offer is yet to be submitted.

While Liverpool might feel their chances of getting Isak have increased following his refusal to play, the situation hinges on whether or not the Magpies can buy a replacement.

Newcastle wanted Benjamin Sesko to replace Isak, but he went to Man United. Liam Delap or Joao Pedro could have replaced him, but they have gone to Chelsea.

With just a few weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, there are not many options out there for Newcastle United. That could be the reason Isak remains at St James’ Park, regardless of whether or not he has any desire to play for the club again.
