One of Newcastle United’s potential targets has now been told he is allowed to leave in the summer window.

Newcastle first made an inquiry about Stephano Carrillo back in November along with Wolves who are also interested in signing the teenager, but were told he wouldn’t be available until his 18th birthday in March.

Now, journalist Dominik Schneider says that the teenager will be allowed to leave Mexican club Santos Laguna for around £6m plus a percentage of his next sale in the summer.

Newcastle to return to Mexico for ‘exciting’ young attacker

Some of you may remember the name Santiago Munoz, and no that isn’t the name of the main character in the Goal! film trilogy, though you’d be forgiven for initially thinking that.

Munoz was signed on deadline day in 2021, one of Mike Ashley’s final transfers, and the club actually presented the player as a big first-team signing who would have a big impact, but he was far from it.

The attacker was signed on loan from Santos Laguna, and it now looks like Newcastle may be returning to the club for another player, though they will hope this one has a much greater potential.

Earning comparison’s to fellow Mexican striker Raul Jimenez, Carrillo is a tall forward with a keen eye for goal as proven by his 26 goals in 33 games for the Mexican Under-17s side.

Newcastle attracting more top young talent

Dan Ashworth’s arrival to the club has really propelled Newcastle’s long-term goal of attracting some of the world’s best young talent and developing them into stars in the North East.

Even if they don’t quite make it into the first team on Tyneside it’s a great plan to have to try and raise funds for the future as Newcastle don’t have too many sellable assets they would be willing to part ways with.

It’s something that the likes of Man City have been so successful at doing recently with Oscar Bobb the latest of their academy graduates to emerge from the academy, much to the annoyance of Newcastle after he scored the winning goal against them two weeks ago.
