Alan Shearer predicted a transfer in July that could suddenly involve Newcastle United.
The Magpies are looking to sign a striker, amid intense speculation over Alexander Isak’s future at St James’ Park.
Newcastle did want Benjamin Sesko, but he has decided that he wants to go to Manchester United.
That is a blow for Eddie Howe, who must now turn to his list of alternatives. That list includes Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Nicolas Jackson is also an option for Newcastle, with the 24-year-old potentially set to leave Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes on 1st September.

Newcastle United could now make Alan Shearer’s Nicolas Jackson prediction come true
A move to Newcastle United for Jackson would come as a surprise, but there will be no shock from Alan Shearer if the Senegalese attacker switches clubs.
That is because he predicted in July that Chelsea would be attempting to sell Jackson.
“As soon as [Joao] Pedro came in and scored the two goals and [Liam] Delap’s already there, if there’s one person that’s going to be shifted out then my guess it would be him [Jackson],” he told the Rest Is Football podcast after Chelsea’s Club World Cup win.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve already offered him to other football clubs and they’ve enquired about it.”
What Alan Shearer loves about Nicolas Jackson as Newcastle United circle
There will not be a huge amount of excitement if Newcastle United do sign Jackson. While he has shown promise, he has hardly been prolific since his £32million arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Since joining Chelsea, Jackson has scored 30 goals in 81 appearances. In comparison, Isak has 62 goals in 109 Newcastle United appearances.
There is plenty of room for improvement, but Jackson has certainly proven that he has the capacity to get better.
That was the view of Shearer back in January, when he discussed Jackson during an appearance on BBC’s Match Of The Day.
“I like him,” he said.
“I think he’s improving. I know he misses chances, a lot of chances, actually. He had 14 goals last season. He’s got nine Premier League goals this season. I think he is getting better.
“There’s lots to admire about his game. I like his attitude. He keeps getting in there despite missing chances. He’s not scared or frightened. He stretches teams and makes it easier for his teammates with his running in behind, which creates the space for Cole Palmer.
“He has to keep on improving and working on the training ground to improve that. There’s no doubt he’s a threat. There’s lots to his game to admire. He just had to keep improving on the finishing and the work on the training ground, and he’ll get better. Eventually he’ll get there.
“He’s only 23, so there’s still plenty of time to improve. The big thing for me is that I love his attitude. He’s not scared to keep getting in there. You’ve got to keep on doing that.”
Shearer knows Jackson has potential, and if there is one manager who can help him realise it then it is Eddie Howe.
The Newcastle United manager is the master of player improvement, while Shearer has made it clear that he thinks Jackson has the right attitude to get better.
That could make Jackson and Newcastle United a recipe for success.
