Alan Shearer has heaped praise on a Premier League star linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer.

It is no secret that the Magpies are anticipating a big summer transfer window, which could be transformative for Eddie Howe and his side.

After three transfer windows with very few additions to the starting XI, Newcastle United are now ready to spend big on their top targets.

Newcastle are expected to have £100-£150m to spend in the transfer window, so they should be able to afford the signings of players like Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Mark Bosnich predicts a huge summer for Newcastle, and Paul Mitchell will be hoping for the exact same.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for a Premier League star who has received his share of praise this season. Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has now joined in on the act after his recent display.

Alan Shearer hails Newcastle United target Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze has had a steady season, scoring seven goals and bagging eight assists. His attacking returns have been enough for Newcastle to register an interest in him this summer.

Newcastle looked at signing Eze in 2023, but former sporting director Dan Ashworth ultimately decided to bring Sandro Tonali to the club instead.

In 2025, reports suggest that Eagles’ boss Oliver Glasner is willing to sell Eze to fund a big summer rebuild of his squad.

The 26-year-old has spent the last five seasons with Palace, but Glasner’s willingness to let him leave could see Eze favour a move to Tyneside.

Eze impressed once again during Palace’s 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, scoring both goals. The performance was enough for him to earn a place in Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week.

On Eze, Shearer said: “He was on fire at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, scoring two more goals. He looks unstoppable at the moment.”

How much will Eberechi Eze cost Newcastle United this summer?

With Guehi also linked with a summer move to Newcastle, Mitchell could perform an impressive summer raid on Palace to take two of their most important players.

The Palace hierarchy was worried about Newcastle in the transfer market last year, but Glasner’s stance on the future of the pair means they are bound to be much more relaxed in 2025.

Due to a release clause in his contract, Eze will cost Newcastle £60m this summer. The Magpies should be able to afford that fee, but risk losing out on one of Guehi or Mbeumo.

Mitchell has a big call to make regarding his recruitment plans for the summer. A transformative window could be on the way, but Newcastle must spend their budget wisely.
