Two Newcastle United loan deals could be scrapped during the January transfer window.

The first is Isaac Hayden, with the midfielder seemingly set to see his spell with Standard Liege cut short. The Belgian club’s CEO has admitted as much, with Hayden now being linked with teams in England.

There was speculation that Preston North End are keen, while it has been claimed that he is heading to Sheffield United.

But he will not play for Newcastle United again. The 28-year-old has no future at St James’ Park, and the same goes for Jeff Hendrick.

He has only played for the Magpies once since the change of ownership on Tyneside, and he famously scored the last goal of the Mike Ashley era.

But Hendrick has only played 10 minutes of football under Eddie Howe, and has been sent out on loan on three separate occasions.

The Republic Of Ireland international is currently with Sheffield Wednesday, but it remains to be seen if he will stay at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday eye Newcastle return for Jeff Hendrick

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday have held talks with Newcastle United about cutting Hendrick’s loan spell with the club short.

They state that the Owls are looking to free up a place in their squad, which could result in Hendrick returning to St James’ Park.

He has not played since December 2nd due to injury, missing eight consecutive games in all competitions.

That is not what Sheffield Wednesday need as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship, but the Sheffield Star add that Hendrick is currently likely to stay where he is rather than head back to the North East.

While Hendrick’s situation at Sheffield Wednesday is not ideal, it is no surprise that Newcastle do not want him back. That would mean they would need to arrange another exit, which might be difficult given his current injury.
