With huge changes heading Chelsea’s way under Mauricio Pochettino, Newcastle United target Conor Gallagher is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge.

To say that Chelsea underachieved last season would be an understatement. The club under new owner Todd Boehly was an absolute mess. Burning through three managers in one season and spending half a billion pounds on transfers only to finish 12th is just crazy.

There will be a mass-exodus this summer as incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino tries to sift through the mess and build a squad capable of competing, but one man who likely won’t be leaving is Newcastle target Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher has been pretty adamant about staying at Chelsea

According to The Mirror, Gallagher has ‘cooled’ on a move to Newcastle as he hopes to play his way into Pochettino’s plans.

Gallagher was said to be going to cost Newcastle £45million to bring him from Chelsea but as an academy graduate, it was always going to be difficult to lure Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge.

Following an exceptional loan spell at Crystal Palace, Gallagher’s confidence was riding high and he wanted to stay at the club he loves to prove himself. He made 35 Premier League appearances for the Blues last season scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Newcastle already have better than Gallagher on their books

The previous campaign at Crystal Palace he managed eight goals and three assists in 34 outings.

To be honest, this isn’t one I’m too disappointed to miss out on. Gallagher is good, no doubt, and has been described as ‘perfect‘ for Newcastle, but I don’t see him as being any better than anyone we already have at Newcastle and that’s before we bring in additions this summer.

I’m happy with Joe Willock who managed six assists alongside his three goals in his 35 Premier League outings.
