Newcastle United may look to the Championship in their search for a winger.
The Magpies have a £100million transfer budget, most of which is expected to go towards a new attacker that will join Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in the starting XI.
Eddie Howe wants someone who is an improvement on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy – someone who can take Newcastle United to the next level.
It has been reported that Jarrod Bowen is Newcastle’s top target, although Geordie Boot Boys were recently told that a deal for the West Ham star is a ‘non-starter’. The Hammers do not want to sell, while Bowen is not quite as open to a move to Newcastle as you would hope.
Newcastle look to the Championship in search for a winger
That means that Paul Mitchell might need to look elsewhere, and that could lead him to the Championship.
Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville has been linked with Newcastle, and he certainly looks ready to make the step up after excelling in the second tier.

But he is not the only Leeds player who the Magpies have their eye on, with Wilfried Gnonto recently emerging as a target for Newcastle.
TEAMtalk reported on July 15th that Newcastle are ready to enter the race to sign Gnonto, as they continue their search for attacking reinforcements. The report adds that Leeds will demand at least £25million to sell the Italian winger.
Wilfried Gnonto to Newcastle is unlikely
While Gnonto is a player who Newcastle ‘like’, HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that the 20-year-old is nowhere near the top of their list of targets.
“I think he’s on their radar,” he said.
“He is a player who Newcastle like, but I do not think he is anywhere near the top of their list.
“Everton like him a lot. He is more likely to go elsewhere than Newcastle.
“I’ll be brutally honest, if Newcastle finish the summer with Gnonto as their attacking signing and believe he is the answer, I’m not sure what the question is. He is one for the future, more than a readymade answer.”
Paul Mitchell must aim higher
Gnonto joined Leeds United in 2022, and certainly impressed during his debut year. He lit up the Premier League with his speed and dribbling ability, showcasing a huge amount of potential at Elland Road.
However, it was clear he was very raw, and he was unable to keep Leeds in the top flight.
Last season he made 44 appearances in all competitions, netting nine goals and providing three assists.
While it is obvious that Gnonto is a talent, Newcastle should be setting the bar higher. They need someone to arrive at St James’ Park who will be a guaranteed starter. They need someone who can take an already exciting attack to an even greater level.
Gnonto might be able to do that over time, but he is not a readymade solution to Newcastle’s problem. And with £100million to spend, Mitchell can do better.
