Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that one Newcastle United player is into his final season on Tyneside and that he will leave in the summer if not this month.
Newcastle don’t want to become a selling club as they look to reach football’s elite, but financial restrictions make it very difficult to get anywhere without moving on some of your best assets.
Speaking on the Ranks FC podcast, Jones claimed that whether Newcastle sell Kieran Trippier to Bayern Munich this month or not, it will still be his last season for the club.
Jones says Newcastle will lose fan favourite in the next six months
Bayern first registered their interest in the 33-year-old last week but Newcastle have rejected all three of their bids so far with one of them being a loan deal and the other two permanent.
Newcastle still view Trippier as part of their long-term future despite his age and there is hope that he will still be at the club in two or three years time, possibly in a more of a leadership role.
In terms of his footballing ability, Trippier still has a lot to give despite suffering a bit of a dip in form in the last six weeks or so, there’s a reason one of the biggest teams in Europe are after him.
But regardless of what Newcastle would like, Jones has claimed that Trippier won’t be at St James’ Park beyond the summer with just 18 months left on his current contract.
On the podcast, Jones said: “Kieran Trippier, this has come out of the blue really. Bayern Munich made an initial loan approach for Trippier last week.
“As it stands at the moment, he’s expected to stay as far as most reporters around the Newcastle area are concerned, that’s clearly what they’re being briefed and told.
“But, I think it is important to note that Trippier’s head was turned, there’s no doubt about it.
“As we’re recording this, Bayern are weighing up the potential of going back in with another offer for Trippier and that would be a permanent offer rather than a loan as I understand it.
“This will be his last season at Newcastle, so where does he end up next? Even if it’s not Bayern Munich, he’ll end up moving on.
“I just feel like, Newcastle feels like an open shop. Clubs are looking at them wondering who they can go and get in the final week of the transfer market. So, this is even about just Kieran Trippier anymore.”
Newcastle are in for a huge six months
Newcastle have a number of players who they would either like to move on or are entering the final stages of their career and the club have to decide whether or not to cash in on them while they still can.
Players like Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick Newcastle want to just get off of their books no matter what, while players like Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron still have something to offer but their value will decrease if they do decide to keep hold.
This puts the Magpies at a bit of a crossroads and they will soon have to decide whether or not to effectively revamp the squad around their key players or to stick with what they’ve got while adding in a couple of new players.
