BeIN Sports will be unblocked in Saudi Arabia in the coming days and that is good news for Newcastle’s takeover hopes.

In and of itself, it doesn’t mean that the takeover will definitely be waved through, as per the Chronicle.

But it does apparently mean the situation is more positive than it has been for over a year, since the summer of 2020.

Had this development happened before the deal was sent to the Premier League, it would have greatly boosted the chances of the takeover taking place.

It even raises the possibility of compromise from the Premier League to without the need for legal hearings.

That would mean it is PIF and not the Saudi state who are subject to the relevant owners and director’s tests.

The Chronicle say the consortium are ready to go and their plans can be put in place within weeks.

Key figure Amanda Staveley is currently on holiday but ready to spring into action if she gets the green light.

Arbitration may now be avoided and a new era could – could – beckon for Newcastle United now a major roadblock has been removed.

We will all wait to see what happens next – there have been too many false dawns in this saga to get too excited yet – but it’s a positive day and a lurch in the right direction.
