Mikel Arteta reportedly plans to use Joe Willock in the majority of Arsenal’s pre-season friendly matches.

The Northern Echo bring a report today that offers some more information about the 21-year-old’s situation.

And it seems like bad news for Newcastle United.

The outlet claim Arteta is now increasingly likely to keep Willock at the Emirates Stadium next season.

The Spaniard is said to have been impressed with Willock’s approach and attitude since returning to pre-season training.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

With Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard having returned to Real Madrid, it seems opportunities for Willock with the Gunners will be more plentiful.

It is a big blow for Newcastle, who have been hoping to bring the star back to St. James’ Park.

Willock’s loan spell last season was highly successful, with the ace scoring eight goals in 14 appearances.

What next for Newcastle?

Many Newcastle fans have been hoping for good news about the club’s pursuit of Willock, but few probably expected it.

It pretty much looks as though Willock just played too well in the end for the Magpies, and his value has shot up beyond what Newcastle can afford.

If Willock is indeed going to stay put at Arsenal, it is absolutely vital now that Newcastle seek out a goalscoring midfielder.

Maybe a swoop for reported target Rafa Silva would be the way to go if the price was right.

Or perhaps the club should be looking at someone such as Matheus Pereira following his relegation with West Bromwich Albion.

If there is to be no external replacement for Willock, then Steve Bruce could finally give youngster Elliot Anderson a proper chance.
