There was no hint of Newcastle United losing Bruno Guimaraes on transfer deadline day.
In fact, there was never any realistic possibility of Newcastle United losing Bruno Guimaraes during the entire January transfer window. The Magpies were never at risk of selling one of their top stars, with Paul Mitchell instead cashing in on a couple of fringe players.
Newcastle improved their PSR position by moving on Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly, and the hope is that their exits will make the summer transfer window easier to navigate.
But the summer will no doubt bring fresh interest in Newcastle’s top stars, such as Bruno.

Manchester City sign Nico Gonzalez
That is why Newcastle should secretly be delighted at what happened on transfer deadline day.
While Newcastle had a pretty quiet day, there was plenty of business up and down the Premier League.
Manchester City completed one of the biggest deals of the day, with Pep Guardiola’s side bringing in Nico Gonzalez from Porto. The 23-year-old midfielder cost around £50million, as the Premier League champions continued to splash the cash.
Manchester City are long-term admirers of Bruno Guimaraes
Manchester City have had problems in midfield all season since Rodri’s injury. It has clearly been a position of weakness, highlighting Pep Guardiola’s need for reinforcements.
They have done that now, bringing in a player who can operate as a ‘six’ and as an ‘eight’. Nico Gonzalez fills a major hole in the Man City squad, while he could still have a prominent role once Rodri is back to full fitness.
Given the type of player that Gonzalez is, his age and the money invested, that deal surely will result in Manchester City opting against stepping up their interest in Bruno Guimaraes.
They are long-term admirers of the 27-year-old, with Pep Guardiola a huge fan of Bruno Guimaraes. In fact, Guardiola thinks Bruno could replace Rodri. And as Toon fans know, the Brazilian can play as a ‘six’ and as an ‘eight’ – just like Nico Gonzalez.
Bruno was heavily linked with Man City last summer, but a deal never materialised due to the Magpies’ financial demands.
Now the hope will be that the arrival of Nico Gonzalez results in Manchester City ending their interest in Bruno. They may no longer need a player like Bruno, which would be music to the ears of everyone associated with Newcastle United.
