The £20m signing that Newcastle United are desperate for Manchester City to complete

Newcastle United have endured a slow start to the summer transfer window, while Manchester City have been extremely active.

Their business has been accelerated due to the Club World Cup, with Manchester City completing deals for Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki. They are also eager to sign a right-back, with Manchester City interested in Tino Livramento.

That is despite the fact that Newcastle United have no interest in selling Tino Livramento. The 22-year-old is a major part of Eddie Howe’s plans, having only arrived at St James’ Park two years ago for an initial £32million.

The Magpies invested in Livramento’s potential, and have no intention of allowing him to realise it in a Manchester City shirt.

Manchester City under pressure to bid for Tino Livramento alternative

While Newcastle’s Livramento stance is clear, Man City’s interest continues. That is frustrating for the Toon Army, who will be keen for Pep Guardiola to sign an alternative right-back so it ends talk of Livramento leaving.

One alternative that Manchester City are considering is Flamengo’s Wesley Franca, and there could now be an added need for them to step up their interest.

According to the Telegraph, Brighton are rivalling Manchester City’s pursuit of Wesley with a £20million bid.

The report states that Flamengo are willing to sell the 21-year-old after the Club World Cup, which gives Manchester City time to make an offer of their own.

With Newcastle not willing to sell Livramento, there is pressure on Man City to sign someone else. From Newcastle’s perspective, that will hopefully result in Guardiola trumping Brighton’s bid for Wesley.

What Tino Livramento has said about Manchester City’s interest in him

Amid speculation that Manchester City want to sign him, Livramento has spoken about his Newcastle United future.

The defender is currently away on international duty, representing England Under-21s at the European Championship. For now, that is Livramento’s only concern.

“I’m very much focused on what I’m doing here now,” he told the Sun.

“I don’t know anything about that [speculation].

“Being away with the Under-21s is my main priority. I like to stay in the moment and just focus on what I can do to help the team now.”

As Livramento focuses on his England commitments, his next game is on Wednesday night. Lee Carsley’s side are in the semi-finals after beating Spain on Saturday, as they prepare to face the Netherlands for a place in the final.
