Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest will always be a very interesting game for Jamaal Lascelles. However, the upcoming clash could be even more intriguing.
The Magpies take on Forest at St James’ Park on August 6th in the opening game of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
It will be the away side’s first top flight game since 1999, having secured promotion via the playoffs last month. They beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 at Wembley to return to the promised land.
Steve Cooper will be looking to boost his squad before the season starts, and could move for a new centre-back, which brings us to Lascelles.

Nottingham Forest eye Jamaal Lascelles reunion
According to the Athletic, Forest have looked into the possibility of re-signing Lascelles this summer.
While his Newcastle future isn’t in as much doubt as others, there is a chance he could leave the club this summer.
Lascelles is no longer a guaranteed starter at St James’ Park, and he could fall even further down the pecking order as Eddie Howe looks to add another centre-back to his squad. Sven Botman is the club’s number one defensive target.

That could force Lascelles to look elsewhere for first-team minutes, and where better than the City Ground? The 28-year-old came through the Forest academy, and has gone on to achieve great things at Newcastle.
His second Forest debut could come against Newcastle
If Forest do make a move to sign Lascelles, his debut could come at St James’ Park. That would be a surreal experience for him.
SJP has been Lascelles’ home since 2015. He joined the Magpies in 2014, but spent a year back on loan at the City Ground.

He quickly established himself as an important player on Tyneside, and was given the captain’s armband at a very young age by Rafa Benitez. He rose to the challenge, and has led Newcastle through a difficult period.
It will be disappointing if he does leave this summer, and to see him make his first appearance for his new team as an away player at St James’ Park would be very strange.
Now we wait to see if Forest do make a move…
