Kevin Campbell thinks Nottingham Forest will be 'buzzing' to play Newcastle

Newcastle United will kick off the 2022/23 Premier League season at home to Nottingham Forest.

The fixtures for the new season have been confirmed, and Eddie Howe’s side have been handed an intriguing home game to start the campaign.

It will be Forest’s first top flight game since 1999, and the first time they’ve visited St James’ Park since December 30th 2016. The two sides met in the Championship on that day, with Newcastle winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Matt Ritchie and a Dwight Gayle brace.

A lot has changed since then. Newcastle still have an ambitious manager, but it’s Howe instead of Rafa Benitez. We also have new ownership and fresh hope.

As for Forest, they will be riding the wave of momentum created by their playoff final victory over Huddersfield last month.

Forest will be very happy to play Newcastle in their first PL game back

Former Forest striker Kevin Campbell has spoke to Sky Sports following the fixture announcement, and he believes the Reds will be ‘buzzing’ to head to St James’ Park.

“I think that’s one of the clubs [Newcastle] they miss going to,” he said.

“It becomes real. It becomes reality for a lot of Nottingham Forest fans. I was on social media before coming on and they were so exciting to know where they’re going. So to be going to Newcastle on the opening weekend is a real shot in the arm for them.”

Exciting game to start the season

This is probably the first time in a while that the majority of fans are happy with our first game of the season. 3pm on a Saturday at home is the perfect start.

It’s a winnable game against a newly promoted side, and the atmosphere will be absolutely electric. Supporters are already excited to see what kind of display Wor Flags put on.

St James’ Park has been rocking lately, and that will definitely be the case when the 22/23 season begins. There will also be a packed out away end, with Forest fans excited for their first away trip as a Premier League club for more than 20 years.

They’ll be buzzing to head to one of England’s most atmospheric grounds, and they’ll also have ambitions of getting all three points.

It’s set to be an enthralling occasion when Forest arrive at St James’ Park on August 6th. The countdown begins.
