Newcastle United target Ismaila Sarr is set for a spell on the sidelines.
The Watford winger has damaged his knee ligaments, ruling him out for the rest of 2021.
Sarr was set to represent Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations next year, but that is now in doubt amid the 23-year-old’s fitness concerns.
And perhaps this injury could put a move to St James’ Park in doubt as well.

Newcastle were linked with Sarr in October
The Daily Mail reported in October that the new Newcastle owners want to sign Sarr.
The report states that Watford wouldn’t likely consider a deal for their best player in January. However, money talks. And Newcastle certainly have cash to splash.
Sarr would be a sensational signing, and could make the Magpies very exciting in attack alongside Allan Saint-Maximin.
The former Rennes ace has been enjoying a decent season so far, scoring five goals, including one against Newcastle.

Will Newcastle still move for Sarr after injury blow?
While a deal for Sarr could be difficult, it is not beyond the realms of possibility. However, this injury could complicate matters.
Newcastle desperately need new players in January to save their season and guide them away from the relegation zone.
The £30million man could be capable of doing that, but he’ll have a hard job if he’s injured…

It’s unknown how long he will be out of action for. Watford have stated that he will have a further scan in ‘around a month’s time’.
If it’s a lengthy injury then there is no point in Newcastle pressing ahead with a deal. They need players who can make an immediate impact given their precarious position.
Who knows when Sarr will return to full fitness, but this injury may force the Newcastle hierarchy to look elsewhere when the transfer window opens.
