Newcastle United are going to endure a difficult start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, but it is not all bad news.
The 2025/26 Premier League fixtures have been released, with Newcastle United kicking off the new campaign with a trip to Aston Villa. After that, Eddie Howe’s side welcome Premier League champions Liverpool to St James’ Park.
Newcastle’s start to the season is difficult, but that can be looked at in different ways. On the one hand, it will make it tough for the Magpies to start the season well. On the other, it gets challenging games out the way early.
It could be looked at as a positive, and that is not the only reason for optimism on Tyneside.

Newcastle United handed ideal end to the 2025/26 Premier League season
While Newcastle United’s start to the season is challenging, the run-in can be looked upon very favourably.
From March onwards, Newcastle United have a lot of games they will back themselves to win, including the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland at St James’ Park.
Out of Newcastle’s final 10 games, only two of them should bring major fear. They are Chelsea and Arsenal away. Other than those two games, Newcastle are a strong enough side that they should be backing themselves to finish the 2025/26 campaign extremely strongly.
That is a massive plus, as Eddie Howe aims to qualify for the Champions League in consecutive seasons for the first time in his career. That would represent success for Newcastle, as they aim to build on arguably their best season ever.
What PIF want Newcastle United to do by 2030
Ever since buying the club from Mike Ashley in October 2021, PIF have had ambitions of Newcastle United becoming elite.
They are already on that path, having ended their trophy drought and qualified for the Champions League twice.
With regards to the latter, PIF want Newcastle United to become a Champions League regular. That will help the Magpies become recognised as one of the world’s elite, while it will also intensify the club’s revenue streams.
It was reported by the Telegraph in March that PIF want Newcastle to regularly compete in the Champions League by 2030.
They need to qualify for Europe’s top competition year after year, and the 2025/26 fixture list gives Newcastle United a great opportunity to start making that a reality.
