Newcastle United now only have one player who is in the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.
That honour goes to Kieran Trippier, who will link up with the national side for games against Malta and North Macedonia after an altercation with a Newcastle fan on Saturday.
Trippier had words at full time with one supporter who was not happy with the team’s performance. But they gave all they could in incredibly difficult circumstances.
Injuries are killing Newcastle right now, with Callum Wilson one of the players who is out of action. He missed the trip to Bournemouth, and has now been forced to pull out of the England squad.
It was a surprise to see him included in the first place, but now he will not get the chance to add to his nine caps.
Nor will there be a chance for Anthony Gordon to get his first ever cap, as he has been ignored by Gareth Southgate for the second time in a week.

Anthony Gordon ignored twice by England boss Gareth Southgate
Ahead of last weeks’s England squad announcement, it was reported that Gordon was likely to be named in the senior side for the first time ever. It was the least he deserved after an ‘outstanding’ start to the season.
However, the reports ended up being incorrect and Gordon was nowhere to be seen. Southgate snubbed him, and now he has done it again on Monday.
Wilson has withdrawn from the squad, as has James Maddison and Lewis Dunk. That has led to Southgate calling up three replacements.
But rather than turn to Gordon, he has called up Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis and Ezri Konsa.
Given the fact he needed to replace two attackers, it is a real shock to see Gordon miss out again. It is a shame for the winger, as his performances for Newcastle certainly warrant an England callup.
Gordon snub is good for Newcastle
However, it is a bit of a blessing for the Magpies. While it would be great to see Gordon play for England, I would rather see him fit for Newcastle.
He has looked exhausted over this past week, and could really benefit from a break over the next fortnight to recharge his batteries. He would not have got that if he had been called up to the England squad.
Hopefully Gordon does get his chance to play for England in the future, but the fact he has been snubbed by Southgate on this occasion is probably for the best when it comes to Newcastle.
