Newcastle United’s new transfer target goes completely against Paul Mitchell’s recruitment strategy

Newcastle United will put their new transfer strategy into motion in 2025.

Paul Mitchell is going to change the way that Newcastle United operate in the transfer market, as PSR continues to hold the Magpies back.

Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle must sell before they buy in January, as the Premier League’s financial rules continue to have a negative impact on goings on at St James’ Park.

With Newcastle restricted in what they can spend, Toon officials are having to change the way that they operate in the transfer market. They can no longer afford to splash out on Premier League players who inevitably cost more. Instead, Mitchell wants Newcastle to sign younger players from across Europe.

It is a risk, but one the club feel is worth taking as they aim to improve Eddie Howe’s squad.

But with this new strategy set to be put to the test in 2025, the latest player linked with a transfer to St James’ Park makes absolutely no sense.

It has been reported that Newcastle United are monitoring Jack Grealish, who is being linked with a move away from Manchester City.

The £100million playmaker continues to be unable to justify that fee in a Manchester City shirt, which could result in a fresh start somewhere else.

That is exactly what Grealish needs, but there is absolutely no way he will get that opportunity at St James’ Park.

Grealish is exactly what Newcastle United do not want

If Newcastle were to sign Grealish, it would go against everything that Paul Mitchell is trying to implement on Tyneside.

The Toon sporting director wants to sign younger players from untapped markets. He wants players who will represent better value for money, with the view to them being nurtured and developed by Eddie Howe and the Newcastle United coaching staff.

In contrast, Grealish is 29-years-old, will likely be incredibly expensive, as well as boasting extremely high wage demands. It is reported that Grealish earns £300,000-a-week at the Etihad, which is a lot more than Newcastle United’s highest earner.

Financially, it makes no sense that Newcastle United would be monitoring Grealish. And that is before you consider that he prefers to play on the left, which is Anthony Gordon’s position.

The Magpies have absolutely no need for Grealish, nor do they have the financial capacity to facilitate a deal. Talk of Newcastle wanting Mohammed Kudus felt nonsensical, but this rumour makes even less sense!
