Newcastle United have finally agreed to sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool, but are getting less money than they wanted.
After spending the summer demanding £150million, Newcastle are selling Isak for £125million.
Liverpool’s patience has paid off, with Newcastle deciding to cash in on Isak after last week’s unsuccessful meeting between the player and the owners.
While the Magpies wanted a bigger fee, it is still a British record sum. It will put Newcastle in a brilliant financial position, and should allow them to invest heavily in the near future.
However, Newcastle perhaps missed a trick that could have made Isak’s departure a bit more palatable for the Toon Army.

Newcastle United should have asked for Harvey Elliott to be included in the Alexander Isak deal
As Liverpool get set to sign Isak on deadline day, one of their current players is about to leave Anfield.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have agreed to let Harvey Elliott move to Aston Villa on loan.
The deal will include an obligation to buy, with Villa set to permanently land the midfielder for £35million in the summer of 2026.
That is a great bit of business by Unai Emery’s side, and it is the type of deal that should have Newcastle looking on enviously.
Newcastle looked at Elliott earlier this summer, but their interest did not go any further. That is despite the 22-year-old being the type of player that would really thrive at St James’ Park under Eddie Howe.
The Magpies have had a very strong summer, but it would have been even better with one more midfield arrival. Elliott could have been that player, and there was a chance for Newcastle to get him as part of the Isak deal.
Newcastle United tried to complete a similar deal with Liverpool last summer
This is the second summer transfer window in a row that Newcastle and Liverpool have been involved in major transfer negotiations.
However, unlike in 2024, this time it is going to result in a deal being done.
Anthony Gordon almost joined Liverpool 12 months ago, at a time when the Magpies were scrambling to comply with PSR.
The Scouse winger was offered to the Reds, who came very close to getting a deal over the line.
Newcastle did want Jarell Quansah to move the other way, but Liverpool said no. Instead, Newcastle were going to get Joe Gomez as part of the deal that would have seen Gordon move to Anfield.
However, Newcastle found another way to comply with PSR. Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson were sold, which resulted in Eddie Howe being able to retain the services of one of his key players.
