Paul Mitchell has not had the best start to life as Newcastle United sporting director.
The summer transfer window was an absolute disaster, with Paul Mitchell failing to sign Marc Guehi.
Mitchell then failed to sign Anthony Elanga, as Newcastle United made a late deadline day bid to try and salvage what was a really disappointing transfer window.
Then there was that explosive Paul Mitchell interview. Despite criticism from the likes of Alan Shearer, Mitchell deflected the blame away from himself.
There was a rift between Mitchell and Eddie Howe, which created a rather uncomfortable situation.
Mitchell and Howe have settled their differences now, but Newcastle fans are still waiting for the sporting director to prove why he is the right person to take the club to new heights.
Paul Mitchell’s dream Newcastle signing

The former Monaco chief has the chance to prove that in January, with Newcastle keen to sign a winger.
A new right-sided attacker is absolutely vital, and now the Magpies’ top target has been revealed.
It has been reported that Newcastle’s dream signing would be Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
While a deal for the 25-year-old would be extremely difficult, a transfer to Tyneside would ensure that Mitchell goes from zero to hero.
Bryan Mbeumo is perfect for Newcastle
When it comes to right wingers, Mbeumo could be the perfect fit for Newcastle.
Eddie Howe needs someone who is clinical. He needs someone who can be a difference-maker, relieving the pressure off of Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
Mbeumo has been that for Brentford ever since he joined them, particularly in the Premier League. He has scored six goals in eight games this season, and appears to be thriving in the absence of Ivan Toney.
Since his Premier League career began, Mbeumo has scored 29 goals and provided 21 assists in 106 appearances.
That is a lot more than Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy have managed in that period.
| PL appearances since the start of the 21/22 season | Goals | Assists | |
| Bryan Mbeumo | 106 | 29 | 21 |
| Miguel Almiron | 100 | 15 | 3 |
| Jacob Murphy | 98 | 8 | 13 |
There is also the added bonus that Mbeumo can play as a central striker. Signing him would tick two boxes, as it would mean that Eddie Howe has an additional forward to choose from.
Newcastle are in the market for another striker, but getting Mbeumo could change that.
That versatility could save Newcastle a lot of money in the transfer market.
What Thomas Frank has said about Bryan Mbeumo
Mbeumo has steadily improved over the years, and he is at the point now where pundits are predicting him to join a bigger club than Brentford.
In fact, his manager Thomas Frank is also predicting him to make that move.
“He is a top player and I’m convinced he will play for a bigger club,” he told the Times.
“I would buy him if I was at a bigger club.”
Frank has also said that Mbeumo is ‘on fire’ this season, which could not be more true.
Mbeumo has been backed to join Liverpool
Mbeumo’s manager thinks he will join a bigger club in the future, and Toon fans will hope that club is Newcastle.
However, Tony Cascarino has backed Mbeumo to reach even greater heights.
During a recent column for the Times, Cascarino suggested that Mbeumo could replace Mo Salah at Liverpool when the time comes.
“I expect him to move at the end of the season, and I think he could play for a Champions League team,” he wrote.
“If Mohamed Salah is in his last year or two at Liverpool, I think Mbeumo, 25, should at the top of their list of potential replacements. There is so much to like about his game, but one of the things that stands out for me is the fact that he makes the players around him play well.”
That is high praise for Mbeumo, who is Newcastle’s dream signing ahead of the January transfer window.
Newcastle United supporters will be desperate for this dream to become a reality.
