Newcastle fans react to crazy claim from Alex McLeish about Danny Rose

Danny Rose had a torrid time on loan at Newcastle last year.

The left-back joined the club in January 2020, as part of a triple loan swoop aimed to improve Steve Bruce’s squad.

Sadly, that didn’t happen. Nabil Bentaleb severely struggled, while Valentino Lazaro barely featured.

As for Rose, he was massively underwhelming.

He arrived on a six-month deal from Tottenham, having fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho.

Rose was brought in to replace Jetro Willems, whose loan spell was cut short due to injury.

However, Rose failed where Willems thrived.

The England international failed to impress during his time at St James’ Park.

When the season was over, he returned to Tottenham without a whimper of a permanent move to the north east.

Almost a year on and Rose is set to become a free agent. He didn’t play a single game back in North London. Now clubs can sign him for absolutely nothing.

That has sparked a strange claim from Alex McLeish.

“Rose is a great player. In fact, Newcastle fans actually would love Danny Rose to go back,” McLeish told Football Insider.

What a baseless claim. If there’s one left-back Newcastle fans want to sign this summer, it’s Willems – not Rose.

If McLeish thinks Rose would be a good signing, that’s fair enough. It’s his opinion.

But to try and speak on behalf of all Newcastle fans is ludicrous. And completely wrong.

If anything, fans want the opposite. A lot of supporters have made it clear they want a former left-back loanee to return this summer. Sadly for McLeish, it’s not the one he’s talking about.
