Newcastle United are seemingly in the market for a new full-back in January, and one man who they’re reportedly interested in is Brandon Williams.

The youngster isn’t getting much of a sniff at Manchester United this season, with Alex Telles and Luke Shaw ruling the roost at left-back this season, but Williams’ versatility means that he’s still needed as a back-up right-back at Old Trafford.

However, that’s a situation that could quickly change.

Indeed, reports are now linking Manchester United with a move for a new right-back in the shape of Kieran Trippier, and if the England international comes in, Williams will fall down the pecking order in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, and that could open the door for Newcastle to swoop.

The Magpies have been linked with a loan move for the full-back, and they may have a much better chance of bringing him in if the Manchester outfit are able to secure a deal for Trippier.

Of course, there are still question mark surrounding whether or not this would be a good move for Newcastle, Williams is reportedly on £65k-a-week, and Newcastle fans would seemingly rather see Jetro Willems brought back, and that’s a move that’s there to be done after the Dutchman rejected a new contract with Frankfurt.

However, the Magpies have got problems at right-back with Jacob Murphy having to fill-in there quite often this season, and having Williams would provide a bit more depth in both of the full-back rolls.

If Trippier is brought in at Old Trafford, Newcastle may have a clearer path towards signing Williams, but whether or not that will be a wise move is certainly up for debate.
