Newcastle could land their next Hatem Ben Arfa with Domenico Berardi

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Domenico Berardi.

According to a recent report from the Chronicle, the Magpies are keeping tabs on the Sassuolo wide man ahead of the summer transfer window.

Berardi has been enjoying a tremendous campaign over in Serie A.

So far, he’s scored 14 goals and made 14 assists in just 28 outings – an outstanding return for a player operating out wide.

Berardi has seriously been impressing, even if his club – languishing in ninth – haven’t.

It’s very possible he could on the move this summer, with Berardi having been with his club since the age of 16.

As he enters his prime years, he might well be thinking about moving onto pastures new. And the Newcastle project might be something which appeals.

Newcastle could do with adding another winger this summer.

Currently there are no left-footed options. Miguel Almiron is not a natural wide player, and it’s possible he could be on the way out anyway.

Berardi likes to play from the right and cut in on his strong left foot. And were he to sign for Newcastle, then he could potentially become the next Hatem Ben Arfa at St. James’ Park.

Left-footed wingers have come and gone since the mercurial Frenchman departed the club in 2015. None have ever stacked up to him in terms of providing that wow factor.

It might just be that Berardi would bring back the magic on that right side.

Berardi is a player who loves to get the ball and run.

And usually, there’s something good that comes at the end of it, as evidenced by his 28 goal involvements already this season.

Ben Arfa was a player who loved to get the ball and carry it through the lines.

He dazzled the crowd regularly with his close control and direct play. And, obviously, he was partial to a trick or two.

Berardi would bring a little more efficiency than flair. But there’s no doubt he’d make a very exciting addition were Newcastle to land him this summer.
