Newcastle United are reportedly ‘keeping tabs’ on Serie A star Domenico Berardi, who is Sassuolo’s main man.

Chronicle Live report that the Italian winger has a price tag of £25million and has been attracting scouts from both Leicester City and Arsenal in recent months.

The 27-year-old, a European Championship winner with the Azzurri last summer, has been in phenomenal form this season.

The right-winger has 14 goals and 14 assists to his name so far this season from 28 matches. Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller (19) has more assists than the Italian.

However, despite Berardi’s phenomenal personal form, Sassuolo currently sit ninth in Serie A and look unlikely to qualify for Europe with eight league games remaining.

Aside from four Europa League qualifying matches back in 2016 where Berardi scored in every game, the left-footed forward has not played in Europe since.

Berardi missed Sassuolo’s entire Europa League group campaign in 2016 due to a knee injury and with him entering the prime years of his career he’s likely to want to play in Europe’s top club competitions on a regular basis.

In 319 matches for Sassuolo, Berardi has 119 goals and 81 assists to his name.

With Berardi’s contract expiring in June 2024, the Italian side may see this summer as the opportunity to get best value for their prized asset and cash in on his blistering form.

Although Newcastle won’t be participating in Europe next season, the upward trajectory the club is heading in and its lofty ambitions could appeal to Berardi.

Another successful transfer window in the summer could see Eddie Howe’s side break into the top half next year and challenge for a top eight place.

Berardi’s eye-catching form wouldn’t have gone unnoticed by Europe’s top sides and Sassuolo aren’t likely to be short of enquires in the summer.

But being the world’s richest club means that Newcastle could stave off competition from other sides and could help convince Domenico Berardi that moving to St James’ Park will be the best move for his career.
