Moussa Sissoko could help Newcastle keep Isaac Hayden amid Watford reports – opinion

Newcastle United must keep Isaac Hayden this summer. We can’t afford to sell him.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from St James’ Park, with the likes of Southampton and Watford reportedly keen.

And with just days remaining in the transfer window, there are still reports he may leave.

According to TeamTalk, Watford may make a late move for the 26-year-old.

It would be disastrous if Hayden left Newcastle this summer without an adequate replacement.

The former Arsenal man is a vital player for the Magpies, particularly because of his versatility.

Already this season we’ve seen him play in multiple positions. He’s been a box-to-box midfielder, he’s sat in front of the defence, and he’s played centre-back. On occasions last season he even played at full-back.

While he’s not the most gifted player offensively, he’s a very valuable option in Steve Bruce’s squad.

Reported Watford move may help Newcastle keep Isaac Hayden

According to Sky Sports, Watford are in talks with Tottenham about signing Moussa Sissoko.

The former Newcastle man is out of favour at Spurs, and could join the Hornets permanently before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

While Sissoko joining Watford would boost one of Newcastle’s relegation rivals, it would surely mean that Hayden stays at St James’ Park.

Sissoko is a much more defensive player after his years at Tottenham, with his energy allowing him to break up play and feed the more talented attackers.

Hayden does a similar job at Newcastle, so it seems highly unlikely that Watford would want two players like that.

Sissoko may have left Newcastle five years ago, but his next potential move might actually be a boost to his former employers.
