According to the Mirror, Newcastle have opened talks with Marc Overmars about becoming the club’s director of football.

The Ajax man was first linked with the Magpies last week, a rumour that really excited former Toon striker Michael Chopra.

Bringing someone like Overmars to St James’ Park would be a huge coup for the new Toon owners.

The work he’s done at Ajax has been sensational, building incredible teams with exciting players before selling them on for huge profits. Then after that he helps build another glorious team.

Overmars has a keen eye for footballing talent, which is something we could benefit from hugely.

And if the 48-year-old does join Newcastle, perhaps he can bring his Ajax colleague with him.

Erik ten Hag would be an amazing Bruce replacement for Newcastle

It has been reported by the Mirror that if Overmars does join Newcastle, he wants to bring Erik ten Hag with him.

Ten Hag is the current Ajax manager, and has won two Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups during his tenure. He’s managed some incredible players, and got them playing beautiful football.

He very nearly reached the Champions League final in 2019, only to be denied by a Tottenham Hotspur comeback in Amsterdam.

Since then, Ten Hag has been linked with various jobs. He’s even been mentioned as a candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following Manchester United’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool.

But would he come to Newcastle? It’s hard to see it happening given Newcastle’s position right now. But getting Overmars as director of football would certainly give us a chance.

It would be an ambitious move by the new Toon owners, but appointing the duo of Overmars and Ten Hag could Fast track the Magpies to success.
