The Newcastle United takeover has changed the landscape of the Premier League, and now two more clubs could be under new ownership in Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Talk of the Red Devils being sold by the Glazers is well documented, and now it looks like a change in North London could also be on the horizon.
It was reported by the Financial Times on Wednesday that Spurs could soon be the subject of a takeover bid. They state that Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi is going to launch an offer for Spurs worth £3.1billion within the next few weeks.
The Financial Times’ report adds that Najafi is working with a consortium of investors, and his bid would see him pay for 70% of the club, while the remaining 30% would be made up from backers ‘mainly from Abu Dhabi’.
Over at Manchester United, bids are expected to be made for the club in the coming days. They are the subject of interest from British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe and the Qatar Investment Authority, which appears to be the equivalent of Saudi Arabia’s PIF.
They bought 80% of Newcastle United in 2021, with Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben helping them take the club off of Mike Ashley’s hands. Their aim is to take the Magpies to the top, but that could soon be a lot harder.

PIF’s aim is to make Newcastle one of the biggest clubs in world football. They want to do it in a sustained why, which means taking their time and building the club from the ground up rather than hurling huge amounts of cash at big name signings.
It is going to take a lot of time and effort to take Newcastle to the top. We are already ahead of where we should be, and have a chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. There is also a chance that we could end our trophy drought later this month.
Winning a trophy and then qualifying for the Champions League would be huge for the Toon owners. It would be justification for their approach, and prove that they are doing things right.
However, our bid to reach the top is going to be a lot tougher if some of our ‘big six’ rivals undergo a change of ownership. If Man United and Spurs are taken over, you just know their new owners will splash the cash.
Like what Todd Boehly has done at Chelsea, their revenue from lucrative sponsors will allow them to outspend everyone else, and give them a better chance of consistently finishing in the top four.
As well as Man United and Spurs, there is also talk of change at Liverpool.
With more and more money potentially coming into the Premier League, PIF’s bid to make Newcastle one of the biggest clubs in the world could be about to get a whole lot tougher.
