Newcastle United are consistently linked with a move for Jack Grealish, so it’s worth looking at what the Manchester City star has previously said about the club.
Grealish has been touted as a Newcastle United target and now looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium after he was reportedly snubbed from their squad for the Club World Cup.
Newcastle could sign Grealish for around £38million this summer after the forward’s market value rather drastically dropped following his £100million move to City in the summer of 2021.
He’d certainly be a divisive signing. While clearly a talented player, much has been made about his form at City in recent seasons and his huge salary is difficult to ignore.
Still, the transfer talk continues, so it’s worth revisiting a prediction Grealish made about Newcastle back in 2022.

What Jack Grealish has previously said about Newcastle United
Speaking in 2022 about the club’s journey under Eddie Howe, Grealish predicted that Newcastle United would become a “threat” to the top teams in the “future.”
That has certainly proven to be the case. Newcastle have consistently beaten the best teams the Premier League has to offer under Howe’s watch, while they ended their trophy curse by lifting the Carabao Cup at Wembley in March.
“Eddie Howe came in and changed things,” he said (via The Mirror).
“They have a great manager in Eddie Howe and they already have good players who can hurt you. They had a good window and they brought in good players. They’re a threat now and in the future.”
Grealish was right in his prediction. Back then, it would have been somewhat strange to think of the idea that Newcastle could realistically sign a player of such calibre.
Now, a move to St James’ Park would look like a positive step for him, albeit that doesn’t necessarily mean Newcastle would want him.
Jack Grealish has already decided on his next club after Newcastle United interest
Seemingly set for a City exit, it’ll be interesting to see where the 29-year-old ends up next.
A brilliant player at Aston Villa and a serial trophy-winner while working under Pep Guardiola, watching him play in a perhaps more relaxed context would be fascinating.
While there’s not a natural starting role for him at Newcastle right now, that doesn’t mean he’d be a bad signing. He’d add depth to the squad and could even operate as a No.10, something Newcastle don’t currently have.
Still, his age, salary and recent form would all be reasons not to sign him.
For his part, Grealish wants to join a foreign club when he leaves Man City, although it’s not clear if such an opportunity will emerge.
